The Vandenberg Artificial Reef & Wafe Wifi
The USS Vandenberg was sunk as an artificial Reef in May and WaveWiFi was on hand to provide internet access for streaming video 7 miles off the coast of Key West. The website SinkTheVandenberg.com is a joint effort with Artificial Reefs of the Keys and Valeo Films Inc. to embrace the USNS Vandenberg becoming the worlds 2nd largest artificial reef and share video of the site with with world. The mission of the website is to document the historical event and celebrate the phenomenal, positive impact it presents to aquatic life, the environment, scuba diver excursions and the overall economy of Key West and the state of Florida.
On May 27, 2009 at 10:21 AM charges detonated to send the USNS Vandenberg to her final home. She settled gracefully to the bottom in 1 minute 44 seconds. The website streamed live video of the sinking using Wave WiFi equipment supplied by GEOSat Solutions – an internet first – a live WiFi broadcast of the sinking at sea!
